TO PROVIDE EXPERT CARE

About Me: Welcome
Colorful Bubbles

Dr. Brett S. Bartruff, DSW, LCSW (he/him)

Psychotherapist

I consider myself to be a recovery therapist. My goal is to help clients discover and engage in a meaningful life of recovery. The great thing about recovery is it is different for everyone and should be based on each unique individual. I focus on understanding people holistically, with particular attention on a person’s strengths, attachments, stressful/traumatic events, and cultural environment. I integrate aspects of cognitive therapy, psycho-dynamic principles, adaptive processing theory, and motivational interviewing as part of my therapeutic practice. I am also a proud LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapist.

Services I provide include individual psychotherapy, mental health diagnostic evaluation, and recommendations. As well as the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s level of care assessment for substance use issues. I also offer evaluations and letters for gender care based on the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. I am excited to provide psychotherapy psychedelic integration for those receiving psychedelic medicine from outside providers. I am also one of a handful of people in the region able to offer a Structured Interview for Psychosis-Risk Syndrome evaluation to determine possible emergent psychosis or detection of psychotic breaks.

I am a member of the LGBTQ Affirmative Therapists Guild of Utah, the National Association of Social Workers, the American Psychedelic Practitioners Association, and an associate member of the American Psychological Association.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2013 from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Social Work degree, where I was awarded as the outstanding graduate for the Social Work Department, as well as one of two outstanding graduates for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. In 2014, I graduated from the University of Utah with a Master of Social Work degree. I recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Doctor of Social Work, a clinical practice doctorate.

My current research interests include the use of certified peer supports to improve substance use treatment duration and successful completion.

My practice interests include, but are not limited to: Anxiety, depression, attachment issues, trauma recovery, substance use issues, mood disorders, LGBTQIA Support, as well as identity and values development.

My personal interests include all things Sci-fi, collecting X-Men comic books, road biking, health and nutrition, reading, listening to music, off-roading in my UTV, RV camping, watching movies with my partner, and laughing about literally anything with my friend Jen.
